Bank Of Africa Partners Schools Nationwide For Financial Literacy And The Tree For Life Reforestation Initiative 2026

Bank of Africa has upheld the tradition of participating in the Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative in collaboration with the Forestry Commission under the Bank’s Go Green Initiative.
Across five regions, Greater Accra, Upper East, Northern, Western and Ashanti, the Bank partnered with 20 schools nationwide, planting about 275 tree seedlings of various species and benefits.
Seedling varieties included fruit trees such as cashew, orange, lemon, soursop, coconut, avocado as well as ornamental plants such as Millettia thonningii, Bauhinia, Veitchia Palm, and Albizia lebbeck among others.

Students at participating schools sat through an engaging presentation themed “Plant a tree today, grow a greener Ghana tomorrow,” where they learned how critical tree planting is to sustaining life and cooling our environment.

Mrs. Ernestina Hagan Aggrey, Bank of Africa’s representative at Ford International School, emphasized the importance of this exercise: “This initiative is about more than just planting; it is about securing life on earth. Every seedling we put in the ground today is a step toward a cooler, cleaner planet.”
Students eagerly shared their thoughts about how trees help the environment, the dangers of indiscriminate felling to life, and the importance of planting trees on the school compound. They were also taught proper planting and nurturing techniques to adopt to ensure the seedlings’ survival.
Beyond tree planting and greening the environment, participants received financial literacy training. Through interactive sessions, students learned the basics of savings, handling emergencies, and the benefits of the Bank’s Kids and Teens Savings Account (KITSAC). Our representatives emphasized the similarities between nurturing trees and growing personal wealth.

Mrs. Hagan-Aggrey explained, “Just as a tree takes time to mature, your savings may seem small first, but with patience and consistency, they grow into a huge resource that can be invested in your future business.”
Leila Pentsil, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, emphasized the dual impact of this initiative: “We believe financial literacy should start early. By engaging students today, we are helping raise a generation that understands the value of saving, planning and making informed financial decisions.” She added that this partnership with the schools and the Forestry Commission is part of the Bank’s broader efforts to promote environmental sustainability while deepening financial inclusion through education.
The Go Green Initiative by Bank of Africa received high commendation from leadership of participating schools with students and staff expressing interest in joining future Bank of Africa initiatives.
Bank of Africa sincerely extends a heartfelt gratitude to the Forestry Commission, the leadership of our partner schools; My Redeemer School, Crown Prince Academy, Rev.
